Our beaches

Our beaches

A mere five minutes walk from Casa La Felicidad, we find one of the best beaches in Spain. La Barrosa, with almost seven kilometers in length, has two distinct parts: an urban stretch with a promenade and all the necessary services, and a virtually virgin beach area that reaches the historic Torre del Puerco. Along the whole of La Barrosa (beach awarded with a multitude of distinctions), golden sands of fine grain predominate and spectacular views.

Another of our beaches is Sancti Petri, next to the old fishing village. Small beach (about two kilometers), connected with La Barrosa through a network of cliffs and which is traditionally used by local families for their rest and leisure time. This beach is surrounded by a spectacular ecosystem of coastal pine forests and vegetation typical of the area. Ideal for disconnecting.

Chiclana

Chiclana

Casa La Felicidad is located in the municipality of Chiclana de la Frontera, populous city of the region of the Bay of Cadiz. Chiclana is one of the Andalusian tourist capitals thanks to its historical-artistic heritage, its gastronomy and its natural environment, dotted with beaches and pine forests. It is also very well connected with the cities of Cadiz and Jerez (this has the nearest airport to our house).

The history of Chiclana comes from afar. About 2,700 years ago, the Phoenicians settled in the upper part of the city, where today we can see the archaeological site of El Castillo. Tartessians, Romans, Muslims ... All passed through Chiclana leaving their imprint on a city that without forgetting its past looks with optimism to the future.

Castle of Sancti Petri

Castle of Sancti Petri

When they arrived at these coasts, the Phoenicians settled on a solitary island off La Barrosa. There they decided to build a temple dedicated to Melkart, one of its most important divinities. Subsequently, the Romans took advantage of the temple to worship Hercules. From that past, between mythology and history, there is the present castle of Sancti Petri, a military fortress of the eighteenth century that has reached our days as a barge always stranded in front of the sands of La Barrosa.

From the village Sancti Petri exist the possibility to visit the island by boat and the just renovated castle.
The sporting man can reach it by canoe or surfboard.

Our Markets

In the center of Chiclana there is a large space, the Plaza de Las Bodegas where we find the Mercado de Abastos, a feast for the senses where we can find the excellent products of the local orchards, the best meats of the country (along with traditional products like chicharrones or butifarras) and the finest fish of the nearest coast. All this, in a spectacular atmosphere and with a presentation of the product that makes everything appetizing this place offers us.

But there are not only gastronomic markets in this area. We also have secondhand markets in various parts of the city and every Tuesday, people go to a "flea market" where you can find clothes, shoes, food and anything needed for the house at a great price. The chiclaneros call this market the Tuesdays and it is a strong point of tourist attraction.
